Masvingo – The business community in Mashava is taking a bold stand in support of a cleaner Zimbabwe, urging residents and the business community to actively participate in the National Clean-Up Campaign, held every first Friday of the month. Spearheading this movement is prominent local businessman Mr. Silas Magwizi, who has become a vocal advocate for environmental hygiene and sustainable waste management in the area.
Launched by the Second Republic under the leadership of His Excellency, President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the national clean-up campaign is a key pillar of the government’s vision to create a clean, safe, and healthy environment by the year 2030. This initiative supports Zimbabwe’s broader ambition of attaining upper-middle-income status through inclusive and environmentally conscious development.
Mr. Magwizi emphasized the untapped economic value in waste materials, especially through recycling and reuse. “It’s waste if not picked, but once picked, it’s money,” he said, encouraging residents to see litter not as a problem, but as an opportunity.
He believes that proper waste management cannot only improve the environment but also generate income and employment, especially for the youth and informal traders. The Mashava business community, inspired by Mr. Magwizi’s leadership, is leading by example. They are not only participating in the clean-up drives but are also mobilizing resources, raising awareness, and promoting community involvement. The call is clear: everyone has a role to play in keeping Zimbabwe clean.
As the country moves toward its 2030 vision, the national clean-up campaign stands out as a unifying effort with both environmental and economic benefits. The people of Mashava, through their business leaders and community spirit, are showing that with collective effort, Zimbabwe can achieve a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous future.
