Masvingo – The Government of Zimbabwe has taken a bold step toward revolutionizing the agricultural sector by equipping extension officers with state-of-the-art technology to improve service delivery and boost productivity. In Masvingo district, 133 extension officers received a full set of equipment including solar panels, inverters, cable boxes, and batteries signaling a major stride in the country’s efforts to digitize agriculture.
This comprehensive technological package also includes tablets and laptops, tailored to help frontline agricultural staff work more efficiently and effectively. Director Mr. Caleb Mahoya, who presided over the handover, emphasized that the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to empower extension officers, increase agricultural output, and accelerate progress towards Vision 2030.
“This investment will enhance the way we collect data, analyze trends, and deliver timely advice to farmers. It’s about smart farming and building a sustainable, knowledge-driven agricultural system,” said Mr. Mahoya.
The recipients of the gadgets expressed deep gratitude. Naomi Bhoma described the moment as life-changing, pledging to use the tools to deliver quality service to farmers. Faith Manyakara echoed the excitement, thanking the government for recognizing their hard work and promising to help drive farming success across communities.
This initiative is part of a larger rollout, with over 6,000 gadgets expected to be distributed nationwide. The use of digital tools will significantly enhance data collection and decision-making, helping farmers adopt climate-smart practices and access real-time agronomic support.
Masvingo Provincial Administrator Mr. Anderson Masharira praised the development, highlighting its potential to transform rural economies. Masvingo District Administrator Ms. Junior Gonye also commended the government’s commitment, noting that the tools will lead to better coordination and improved farming outcomes.
