Masvingo — Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) today hosted a senior delegation from the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) on a benchmarking visit aimed at gaining insight into GZU’s innovation-driven operations as the military looks to develop its own Innovation Hub.
The tour is part of ZNA’s broader initiative to integrate into Zimbabwe’s expanding innovation landscape. The delegation explored several of the University’s flagship facilities, including the Innovation Hub, the Innovation Centre of Excellence in Dryland Agriculture located in Chivi, and the GZU Campus Radio Station.
This engagement showcased GZU’s leadership in applied research, sustainable innovation, and hands-on learning. These pillars are central to the national Education 5.0 strategy, which seeks to align higher education with the goals of teaching, research, community service, innovation, and industrialisation.
Addressing the visiting officers, GZU Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo commended the ZNA for embracing innovation and industrialisation as a national imperative. He described the visit as a meaningful step in building synergy between academia and national institutions. “This partnership reflects mutual trust and a shared commitment to national progress,” he said.
Professor Zvobgo emphasized the University’s readiness to collaborate with the ZNA and other public institutions in shaping solutions to national challenges. He noted that the University’s innovation model could serve as a blueprint for the army’s planned hub.
