Masvingo West – The vibrant Zonal Agricultural Show lit up Mushandike’s Buka Business Centre today, bringing together farmers from Ward 7 and Ward 9 of Masvingo West Constituency. The event celebrated local farming excellence and highlighted agriculture’s central role in Zimbabwe’s development.
Director of Agritex, Mr. Caleb Mahoya, represented the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira, as the guest of honor. In his address, Mr. Mahoya applauded the hardworking farmers and praised government efforts in supporting agricultural extension officers key players in realizing Vision 2030.
He emphasized that agricultural shows are vital platforms for farmers to showcase their produce, learn from one another, and prepare for higher-level competitions at district and provincial levels. “Farming is not just a tradition it’s a business. We must align our efforts with the national vision of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030,” said Mr. Mahoya.
To promote transparency and authenticity, Mr. Mahoya announced plans to issue certificates at zonal, district, and provincial shows to prevent fraud and recognize genuine farmers. He also encouraged farmers to focus on specific crops, collaborate, and invest in value addition to uplift rural livelihoods.
A strong advocate of sustainable farming, Mr. Mahoya urged participants to adopt organic fertilizers. “Organic farming not only protects our environment but also fetches better prices in export markets,” he noted.
The show featured a rich display of agricultural products including pumpkins, wheat, finger millet, sugar beans, sesame, cowpeas, vegetables, fruits, and small livestock. Diverse maize varieties such as ZAP61, SC659, PAN43, and Zadza Matura 2651 were also showcased.

Best in Craft: Mrs. Mudzori
Best in Livestock: Mrs. Demba (Contestant #7)
Best in Home Industry: Mrs. Zivevekwa (Contestant #10)
Best in Crops: Mrs. Tazira (Contestant #40)
Overall Best Exhibitor: Mrs. Martha Makaza
Chief Judge Mrs. Etina Mavhundutse commended all participants, admitting it was a tough competition due to the high standards.
The business community also supported the event, with Hon. Chadzamira donating seeds and fertilizers to motivate farmers.
