Masvingo – Zimbabwe has bolstered its commitment to disability inclusion with the establishment of provincial disability committees, designed to strengthen the rollout of the National Disability Policy.
The development was unveiled in Masvingo during a capacity-building workshop attended by disability representatives, government officials, and development partners. The meeting concluded with the creation of a provincial technical committee tasked with driving grassroots monitoring and inclusion.
Participants praised the initiative as a breakthrough, noting it would ensure the voices of persons with disabilities are acted upon. They also commended President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his inclusive leadership, expressing hope the policy will translate into tangible empowerment.
Minister Ezra Chadzamira reaffirmed government’s pledge to inclusive growth, urging all ministries to establish disability focal points in line with the National Development Strategy One (NDS1).
Development partners, including UN agencies, lauded the initiative. UN Joint Programme on Disability official Tafadzwa Muvingi described the new committees as “a game changer,” ensuring disability issues are addressed closer to communities.
Since its launch in 2021, the National Disability Policy has provided a roadmap for protecting disability rights. With the rollout now reaching the provinces, advocates say progress toward full inclusion and empowerment is firmly underway.
