President Mnangagwa Departs for Kenya Ahead of EAC-SADC Summit on DRC Peace Process

HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in his capacity as SADC Chairperson, has departed for Nairobi, Kenya, to attend the Joint East African Community (EAC)–Southern African Development Community (SADC) Co-Chairs’ Summit on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) peace process.

The high-level summit, scheduled for this Friday, is set to bring together regional leaders and key facilitators of the DRC peace process. It will also include a briefing session with the panel of mediators, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and the Executive Secretaries of both EAC and SADC.

The meeting is expected to reinforce regional collaboration, strengthen diplomatic coherence, and enhance collective efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in Eastern DRC, a region that has long faced instability.

President Mnangagwa was seen off at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President General (Rtd) Dr. Constantino Chiwenga, Defence Minister Hon. Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr. Martin Rushwaya, alongside Service Chiefs and senior government officials.
