KADOMA — The fight against drug abuse and social decay gained fresh momentum this weekend as the Zion and Apostolic Churches Council of Zimbabwe (ZACCZ) held a national prayer gathering in Kadoma, uniting faith leaders, congregants, and government officials in a call for moral renewal and social action.

The event drew hundreds of worshippers from across Mashonaland West, where prayers were offered for peace, development, and national unity. Church leaders pledged to take a proactive role in tackling drug and substance abuse, a scourge increasingly threatening families and young people.

“As a church, made up of more than 100 indigenous denominations, we are not just spiritual shepherds but moral guardians of society. Drug abuse is tearing families apart and robbing our nation of a productive generation. We must rise to fight it,” said Bishop Edman Moyo of the Zion and Apostolic Churches Council of Zimbabwe.

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, applauded the Church for stepping up to confront social ills.

“The Church is a key pillar in shaping values and restoring community morality. Government cannot do it alone we must work hand in hand to fight social ills and promote national unity,” she said.

ZANU PF Kadoma District Coordinating Committee Chairperson, Dr. Langton Mabhanga, urged churches to embrace empowerment opportunities being rolled out under the Second Republic.

“We invite the Church to join the economic emancipation drive and tap into the various opportunities available. The Church must contribute not only spiritually but also economically,” he said.
