MASVINGO EXOR – The government has reaffirmed its commitment to working hand in hand with churches, recognising their pivotal role in promoting community development, social cohesion, and national values.
Speaking at the provincial conference of the Johane the Fifth of Africa International Church, led by Archbishop Andby Makururu in Masvingo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Ezra R. Chadzamira, underscored the importance of collaboration between faith-based institutions and government in empowering communities.
“Our government has a strong relationship with indigenous churches because of their moral influence and broad following. We encourage congregants to actively participate in national programmes such as agriculture, tourism, and mining to improve livelihoods. We also count on the church to help us fight drug and substance abuse, which is threatening our youth,” said Hon. Chadzamira.
Archbishop Makururu applauded the government for acknowledging the role of churches in nation-building. “Our church is not just a spiritual refuge but also a hub for livelihood support. We are empowering women and youth through agriculture and skills development to ensure self-reliance,” he noted.
