Masvingo – The Member of Parliament for Masvingo North Hon Brian Mudumi has kickstarted a borehole drilling initiative aimed at supporting local communities with improved access to clean water. The programme is a direct response to long-standing water challenges affecting residents, particularly young women.
Speaking during the rollout, Hon Mudumi expressed heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, for championing the initiative under the Second Republic’s rural development agenda. “Our goal is to turn these borehole sites into business opportunities for young women who have struggled to sustain themselves due to water shortages,” he said.
The borehole drilling started in Ward 8, covering Majaraja and Pfumvudza areas, before moving to Ward 4, focusing on Hofumeya and Boroma. The programme is now transitioning to Ward 32, targeting Mutimurefu and Hwendedzo.
This government-backed intervention is expected to not only improve household water security but also stimulate small-scale enterprises and livelihoods in remote communities. The MP reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that no ward is left behind in the journey towards sustainable development and economic empowerment in Masvingo North.
