Midrand, South Africa – The Pan African Parliament (PAP) and the South African Parliament have jointly adopted a communiqué mapping Africa’s shared priorities for the upcoming 11th P20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit and the G20 Summit later this year.

The communiqué, agreed upon during a high-level meeting in Midrand, underscores parliamentary diplomacy, economic fairness, and sustainable development, ensuring Africa presents a unified front at global forums.

Honourable Cedrick Florick emphasized the importance of revitalizing parliamentary diplomacy as the summits come to Africa for the first time. PAP President Chief Fortune Charumbira stressed Africa’s role in shaping policy on trade, agriculture, climate change, and resource management.

Key discussions targeted dismantling trade barriers and promoting food security, with Honourable Bekizizwe Radebe calling for reduced tariffs and subsidies that hinder intra-African trade. Meanwhile, Honourable John Bideri highlighted the AfCFTA as a cornerstone of Agenda 2063, aimed at boosting regional trade and socio-economic growth.

The upcoming P20 Summit in South Africa is expected to deepen multilateral cooperation and advance Africa’s vision of equality, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
