Harare — The Apostolic and Zion churches have received a significant financial boost after President Emmerson Mnangagwa extended the Presidential Empowerment Fund to support their income-generating initiatives. A revolving fund of US$200,000 was handed over this Saturday during the Vapostori4ED International Conference held in Harare.
Presidential Investment Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara, speaking at the event, emphasized that the fund is a strategic seed meant to uplift the economic standing of apostolic sect members while encouraging their active participation in national development.
“The President has sent me to give you an empowerment fund of US$200,000. This is a seed plant it, water it with your prayers, and it will blossom. This is about building capacity for self-reliance within the church community,” said Dr Tungwarara.
Church leaders expressed gratitude for the gesture, led by Vapostori4ED Chairperson Madzibaba Moses Gwasira, who praised President Mnangagwa’s inclusive leadership.
“We thank our President for this gift. He sees and values everyone, including us in the apostolic churches. We will plan responsibly and make sure this fund changes lives,” he said.
The fund was announced during the three-day Johane Masowe eChishanu conference, which brought together church members for prayer and reflection. Among key concerns raised were national wellbeing, leadership guidance, and the need for divine intervention in the face of increasing road accidents.
“We spent three days praying for peace, for our leaders, and for God to guide the nation toward Vision 2030. Our focus was also on preserving life, especially as we witness rising road carnage,” said Madzibaba Simbarashe Nengomasha, a church representative.
In addition to the fund, Vapostori4ED members will benefit from the Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme, and more support is on the way, including funding for the construction of toilets at apostolic church gatherings.
