Masvingo — The Mucheke Old People’s Home was filled with joy and renewed hope today as CMED (Private) Limited extended a compassionate hand to the elderly through a major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) donation. The event, guided by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira, highlighted the government’s and CMED’s shared commitment to prioritizing the welfare of society’s most vulnerable members.

CMED Masvingo Provincial Manager, Mr. Pepukai Zimudzi, underscored the company’s dedication to supporting communities, noting that as a government-owned entity, CMED is mandated to work hand in hand with citizens.

“Our role goes beyond business operations. We are here to improve lives, especially for the elderly, who hold a special place as the nation’s wise council,” he said.

The donation included 10 grocery hampers, 5 bags of maize meal, 5 bags of rice, 5 bags of wheat, and warm blankets for the home’s 25 residents. Mr. Zimudzi emphasized that the initiative was part of CMED’s broader goal of aligning with the national vision of social welfare and inclusive development.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Chadzamira praised CMED for setting an example of meaningful corporate responsibility. He assured the elderly that the government remains committed to their well-being, pledging to address outstanding needs such as maintaining solar systems and constructing a traditional kitchen as requested by the residents. “This is not just about material support,” Hon. Chadzamira declared. “It is about recognizing the value, dignity, and wisdom of our elders.”

He further called on the Department of Social Welfare to ensure regular visits to the facility, reinforcing the state’s recognition of the elderly’s importance in society.

While the Mucheke Old People’s Home has faced challenges in the past, Hon. Chadzamira highlighted that there are currently no serious concerns, thanks to continuous support from government and partners such as CMED. The atmosphere at the event was filled with gratitude as residents expressed joy and relief at the timely donation.

The CSR initiative reinforced the spirit of unity and Ubuntu, proving that collaboration between government, corporate entities, and the community can create lasting positive change. Hon. Chadzamira concluded by linking the gesture to Masvingo Province’s broader development agenda, which has already seen progress in irrigation schemes, hydroelectric power, and housing projects.
