French swimming sensation Léon Marchand stunned the world on Wednesday after smashing the men’s 200-meter individual medley world record at the World Aquatics Championships.

The 23-year-old clocked an astonishing 1:52.69 in the semifinals, slicing 1.31 seconds off the long-standing record set by American Ryan Lochte in 2011. The remarkable performance has further cemented Marchand’s status as one of the greatest swimmers of his generation.

“What’s crazy is that it’s a whole second faster than the previous record … and it’s still hard to believe,” Marchand said, visibly elated after his historic swim. “A 1:52 on the 200m – that’s insane. I’m so happy. It’s just incredible.”

The French star, already an Olympic champion with four gold medals from last year’s Paris Games, is now setting his sights on adding a sixth world title in Thursday’s final.

Marchand is no stranger to the spotlight, having dominated in the 200m individual medley before, where athletes battle across butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle in a test of versatility and endurance. But this record-breaking performance has elevated him into swimming’s pantheon of legends.

As fans eagerly await the final, many believe Marchand may go even faster potentially pushing the boundaries of what was once thought possible in the sport.
