Masvingo Urges Compliance with Meat Safety Laws, Say No to Uninspected Meat

masvingo urges compliance with meat safety laws, say no to uninspected meat

Masvingo – The City of Masvingo is issuing a firm public health alert to all residents, meat vendors, and butcheries: comply fully with Statutory Instrument 50 of 1995, which strictly prohibits the sale and purchase of uninspected meat.

According to city authorities, selling or consuming meat that has not been inspected by qualified meat inspectors poses a serious health risk and is punishable by law.

Officials have confirmed that any uninspected meat found on sale will be condemned and destroyed immediately. Butcheries found violating this law risk having their operating licences revoked and may face prosecution. Consumers are also reminded that eating uninspected meat can result in severe health issues, including food poisoning, tapeworm infections, and other potentially life-threatening diseases.

The City Health Department is calling on the public to stay alert and act responsibly. Always ensure that meat is sourced from licensed outlets and comes with proof of inspection.

This is not just about following the law it’s about protecting your health and the safety of your loved ones,” said a spokesperson from the City Health Department.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspected cases of illegal meat sales to the relevant authorities immediately.
