Masvingo – Masvingo’s economic prospects took center stage as the Minister of Finance, Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube, delivered a compelling address at the ongoing Masvingo Provincial Business Conference. Held under the theme “Invest in Masvingo: A Gateway for Economic Growth for Vision 2030,” the conference underscores Masvingo’s strategic role in driving Zimbabwe’s economic transformation.
Hon. Ncube announced that the government is actively supporting local authorities in crafting bankable project proposals. This intervention aims to equip councils with the capacity to attract funding and strategic investments aligned with local development needs.
“We are working to empower communities to unlock their own potential,” he stated.
Minister Ncube outlined several promising sectors in Masvingo including mining, energy, agriculture and he emphasized the need to shift from exporting raw materials to processing them locally, particularly in agriculture and mining. Plans are underway to establish a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Masvingo, designed to attract foreign and domestic investors while creating sustainable jobs.
To foster inclusive growth, Hon. Ncube urged entrepreneurs to formalize their operations. He noted that the government is streamlining licensing systems to encourage wider participation in the economy.
“Formal businesses are better positioned to grow, receive support, and generate employment,” he noted.
Hon. Ncube extended an invitation to both local and international investors to form partnerships with government and communities.
“Our doors are open. Together, we can unlock Masvingo’s full economic potential,” he said.
