Masvingo – A dark cloud hung over Masvingo on August 11, 2025, after a horrific road traffic accident claimed six lives and left 16 others nursing injuries. The crash occurred at around 2:00 AM at the 283-kilometer peg along the Mutare-Masvingo Road.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the accident involved a Toyota Quantum carrying 22 Zion Christian Church (ZCC) congregants. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road, overturned, and landed on its wheels, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
ZRP confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Masvingo General Hospital for postmortem, while the injured are receiving medical attention at the same institution. The identities of the victims will be released once their next of kin have completed the identification process.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, expressed condolences to the affected families and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving. He stressed the importance of adhering to road safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
