Bulawayo – Zimbabwe’s healthcare sector received a major boost as the government commissioned a 52-room diagnostic facility at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), positioning the institution as a top referral centre.
Equipped with advanced haematology and biochemistry units, the new lab enables local testing for infectious diseases like Ebola, ending the need for outsourcing.
“This facility transforms UBH into a one-stop diagnostic hub, ensuring greater efficiency and patient convenience,”
said Dr William Busumani, UBH Chief Medical Officer.
The centre also benefits from a solar power plant, guaranteeing uninterrupted services during power outages.
Information Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere hailed the project as part of the Second Republic’s mission to modernise health infrastructure, noting Bulawayo’s growing role in national development.
The initiative aligns with the government’s pursuit of universal health coverage, with similar upgrades underway at Parirenyatwa Hospital and other facilities nationwide.
