Geneva, Switzerland – Zimbabwe has joined the global stage at the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, with Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda and Senate President Honourable Mabel Chinomona representing the nation at the high-level summit in Geneva.
Organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the conference is running from July 29 to 31 under the theme: “A World in Turmoil: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace, Justice and Prosperity for All.”
The gathering, hosted at the United Nations Office in Geneva, brings together parliamentary leaders from across the world to deliberate on strengthening multilateralism, promoting peace, and advancing justice and prosperity through parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation.
In a statement, the Parliament of Zimbabwe noted:
“The Conference aims to provide a unique forum for high-level dialogue among Speakers from around the world to find lasting solutions to the global debilitating socio-economic challenges.”
Speaker Mudenda, who arrived in Geneva on Monday, was received by Zimbabwe’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Ever Mlilo. Meanwhile, Senate President Chinomona had already taken part in the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, held at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) headquarters.
The three-day summit features plenary debates, panel discussions, roundtables, and the presentation of country reports, all aimed at crafting actionable solutions to pressing global challenges. Proceedings are expected to conclude with the adoption of a solemn declaration, jointly drafted in consultation with all participating Speakers.
