Zimbabwe – Zimbabwe’s rising tennis talents delivered an inspiring showcase at the ongoing International Tennis Federation (ITF) Tournament in Bulawayo, marking a promising chapter for the country’s junior players on the international stage.

With the first round completed, focus has now shifted to the second leg, where local athletes are eager to build on their momentum and maximize the benefits of playing at home.

Among the standout performers was young sensation Kudzai Chapepa, who impressed in the girls’ division by securing a confident first-round victory. Although she did not progress further due to personal commitments, her performance set the tone for Zimbabwe’s strong showing. In the boys’ category, Hong Kong’s Alex Hu continued his fine run with a solid win.

The second round, however, opened with a tough challenge for Zimbabwe’s Emily George, who fell 6–4, 6–3 to American second seed Sydney Wright. Despite the loss, George remained optimistic, saying she was taking valuable lessons from the experience and looked forward to more ITF tournaments ahead.

Wright reflected on her improved form, noting that she struggled with the courts earlier in the competition but now feels poised to contend for the title.

Tournament organiser Ruggs Chikunichawa praised the overall performance of local players, highlighting Chapepa’s victory and Ronwen Mutisi’s impressive run to the quarter-finals as key milestones.

The Bulawayo ITF tournaments continue to offer an important platform for Zimbabwean juniors to boost their rankings, gain exposure, and sharpen their skills against international competitors.
